STORM DAY AUGUST 4TH, 2020
It’s 7:30 AM and
the tropical storm is to the south of us here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. At
its current track it will arrive in this area around 2 PM. The only question
now is if it will stay on the projected path and be somewhat to the east of us,
or will it shift by about 5-10 miles to the west and hit us harder? If it stays
on track we will get some wind and rain. If it veers we could get high winds
and heavier rain.
The
winds are the first question as we have trees around us that could come down on
the house. Al we can do about that is pray and be ready with tarps, ropes and
saws in case they do.
The
most probable effect will be the loss of power. This morning I will make up
more bags of ice cubes to go in the freezers and into small foam coolers I
have. Of the power goes down, I’ll pull out non-important items from the
refrigerator, such as catsup and mustard, and pu tin the coolers after putting
the cold meats and cheeses in them. Bags of ice will also go in the drawers to
keep other perishables cool.
The
alternate water, toilet and lighting items are all at stand-by as part of our
DAN (Deploy as Necessary) system, as is our
generator. Each room has at least a basic flashlight that can get us to where
the lanterns are.
With
a threat like this, little has to be brought out at least at first. The goal
here was to be ready for such an event. Once you are stocked and geared up, it
is just a matter of checking items (batteries, ice, etc.) and riding out the
impact of the event.
Once
the event had come and gone, the situation will be accessed and the proper gear
and steps will be taken.
As
soon as possible after the event, we will post a report.
Our
prayers and thoughts are with all in the direct path of the storm.
